The Guru Kashi University has been founded by Balaji Education Trust, Talwandi Sabo which was established in 1997 and became the foundation stone for education in this region. The first college, Guru Gobind Singh Polytechnic was established in 1998 and later Graduate and Post graduate programmes were added. In 2001, Guru Gobind Singh College of Engineering & Technology was established, followed by Guru Gobind Singh College of Education in 2005. In 2006, GGS Institute of IT and Research and the GGS College of Nursing came into existence. In 2011, Guru Kashi University was established by the Punjab Act No. 37 of 2011. Since then, the university is growing and catering the needs of local, national and global area in the lap of the natural beauty.

The ceremony took place at University Auditorium.The convocation saw a gathering of distinguished guests Dr. D. P. Singh, Former Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), as Chief Guest, Dr. Ramesh P.Rudra, from University of Guelph, Canada Dr. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairperson, National Commission for Minorities, and Dr. D.K. Singh, Head, AIIMS Bathinda, as special guest, who came together to witness the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the graduating students.The ceremony was presided over by Chancellor,S. Gurlabh Singh Sidhu.
